Motivational Interviewing Therapy in Jefferson, North Carolina

COMMUNICATING WITH RESPECT

Becoming an adult is not easy! It is like you are suddenly responsible for everything and everyone. Everything changes…and in many ways so do you.

It is easy to feel lost and overwhelmed. Change is not easy, even when it is positive or necessary (and in early adulthood and parenthood, it can be really challenging to even know what is necessary).

These periods can be a time of irritability and anxiety. There is nothing more frustrating than feeling lectured, belittled, threatened, coerced, manipulated, or judged-especially when the stakes are your own mental well-being and the health of your relationships. Unfortunately, this happens all too commonly in healthcare. I do things differently. My care is built on a foundation of respect and assertive communication. I’ll treat you this way and help you know how to use the same skills in your life.

For clients in NC and VA receiving one-on-one mental health care through my telehealth platform, motivational interviewing will be a part of your care.

Why Motivational Interviewing is a great approach to support your mental health

It is really very simple. Because you deserve respect.

You also deserve support and YOU ARE CAPABLE! You deserve to be loved, supported, validated, and assisted. However, this support should be provided as one adult to another. This means you are capable of deciding when and how you want and need to make adjustments along your journey.

In motivational interviewing, I work with clients experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, and other mood and anxiety symptoms to help them become curious about their struggles from a solution-oriented focus.

With kindness and empathy, together we explore the mental health challenges you face and the steps you can take to change your course and improve your outcomes.

Motivational interviewing is an evidence-based approach that has been shown to be helpful for a variety of conditions and situations-including the contributing factors to stress and overwhelm, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, postpartum anxiety, and postpartum depression.

Because at its heart, motivational interviewing is respectful communication, it works well in a telehealth format and can be helpful for health, fitness, nutrition, parenting, substance abuse, risk-taking behaviors, sexual health concerns, and medication success.
