Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and licensed dietitian to join our interdisciplinary team of mental health professionals. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the relationship between nutrition and mental health and will be passionate about helping individuals achieve balanced well-being through personalized, evidence-based nutritional guidance. This role is an excellent opportunity for a professional who values collaboration, patient-centered care, and holistic treatment approaches.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough nutritional assessments, evaluating dietary habits, medical history, and mental health conditions to develop individualized nutrition plans with an understanding of the interplay between gut health, hormones, weight, and mood.
- Collaborate closely with therapists, prescribers, and other healthcare providers to support patients struggling with their relationship and behavior patterns regarding nutrition and movement, anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions.
- Design and implement educational programs that promote nutritional awareness and its impact on mental health.
- Monitor and adjust nutrition plans based on patient progress, treatment goals, and evolving needs from a trauma informed perspective.
- Provide evidence-based recommendations on dietary supplements, mindful eating techniques, and sustainable lifestyle changes to enhance mental and physical health.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation in electronic health records, ensuring accurate and up-to-date patient information.
- Participate in team meetings and case conferences, contributing to the development of holistic treatment plans.
- Stay informed about current research in functional nutrition and mental health, integrating best practices into patient care.
Required Qualifications
- Active North Carolina Dietitian License
- Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience, preferably in a healthcare or mental health setting
- Strong understanding of the connection between nutrition and mental health
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in mental health settings, particularly with patients managing anxiety, depression, compulsive behaviors, body image concerns, autoimmune processes, and hormonal abnormalities
- Knowledge of integrative and functional nutrition approaches
- Training in mindful eating and behavior change strategies, body positive, inclusive, and social justice advocate
- Experience in the treatment of eating disorders
- Certification in specialized areas of nutrition therapy, such as intuitive eating, functional medicine, or metabolic health, motivational interviewing
Required Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with patients
- Cultural competency and sensitivity in working with diverse populations
- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems
- Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities
- Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and learning
